This hard-surface modeling study explores the wheel design language of the first-generation Audi R8 (Type 42), a high-performance sports car recognized for its balanced proportions, engineering precision, and distinctive visual identity. Developed entirely in 3ds Max, the project focuses on accurately recreating the wheel’s proportions, spoke geometry, rim profile, and overall structural character while preserving the design language associated with Audi’s flagship supercar.

Particular attention was given to spoke curvature, hub integration, rim depth, edge transitions, and surface continuity. The study investigates how performance-oriented wheel designs combine lightweight construction principles with visual balance, resulting in a wheel architecture that communicates both strength and precision.

The clay presentation highlights form development, geometric accuracy, and surface continuity without the influence of materials, reflections, or textures. This allows the wheel’s construction logic, spoke geometry, and overall silhouette to remain the primary focus of the study.
