Hermes Statue Unwrap Test
This technical study explores UV unwrapping and texture-preparation workflows using a classical Hermes statue as the test subject. Developed entirely in 3ds Max, the project focuses on creating clean, efficient UV layouts suitable for high-resolution texturing while preserving the sculpture’s proportions, anatomical forms, and surface detail.
Particular attention was given to seam placement, UV island organization, texel density consistency, distortion control, and efficient space utilization. The study investigates practical approaches for preparing complex organic models for physically based rendering (PBR), digital sculpting workflows, and real-time applications while maintaining production-ready topology.
The clay presentation highlights the underlying geometry, UV organization, and surface continuity without the influence of materials, reflections, or textures. This allows the sculpture’s form, mesh quality, and texture-mapping strategy to remain the primary focus of the study.
