This hard-surface modeling study explores the design language of the 5ZIGEN FN01R-C cast aluminum wheel, a lightweight six-spoke design recognized within the Japanese performance automotive scene. Developed entirely in 3ds Max, the project focuses on wheel proportions, spoke curvature, hub construction, rim profile, and the balance between structural engineering and visual simplicity.
Particular attention was given to spoke transitions, center hub detailing, bolt pattern integration, edge continuity, and the relationship between lightweight construction and mechanical strength. The study investigates how motorsport-inspired wheel design can be translated into a clean digital asset while preserving the recognizable character of the original product.
The clay presentation highlights form development, geometric accuracy, and surface continuity without the influence of materials, reflections, or textures. This allows the wheel’s construction, proportions, engineering logic, and overall design intent to remain the primary focus of the study.
